Lincolns set franchise record with 18th straight win

Lincolns clinch first place in midst of historic season

St. Thomas Stars 3
St. Marys Lincolns 8

Jaden Lee scored his 24th and 25th goals of the season and Chase MacQueen-Spence scored twice to extend his goal streak to 7 games leading the Lincolns (38-6-1-0) to a franchise record 18th consecutive win, surpassing the 17-game streak set in the 2007-08 season.  With the win, the Lincolns clinched their first-ever GOJHL regular season conference title and the first regular season first-place finish since 2006 when they finished atop the WOHL standings.  The closest they came were 2nd-place finishes in 2007-08 and 2023-24.

In the 18 games since their last loss on December 13 in Stratford, the Lincolns have outscored their opponents 98-31, with their “closest call” being a 3-2 OT win over Listowel on January 17.   The 18-game winning streak is tied for the 5th-longest in GOJHL history, matching the 2017-18 Caledonia Corvairs and the 2022-23 Stratford Warriors.  The league record of 25 set in 2013-14 by the Kitchener Dutchmen is out of reach for the Lincolns, who have just five game left in the season.

Longest GOJHL winning streaks:

25 Kitchener Dutchmen Sep.17…Dec.13, 2013
24 Caledonia Corvairs Sep.6…Nov.23, 2013
22 Caledonia Corvairs Oct.13…Dec.19, 2014
19 Caledonia Corvairs Oct.9…Dec.1, 2016
18 Caledonia Corvairs Nov.11, 2017…Jan.21, 2018
18 Stratford Warriors Nov.6, 2022…Jan.15, 2023
18 St. Marys Lincolns Dec.20, 2024…Feb.21, 2025

The Lincolns can set a new franchise record with a 9th consecutive away win on Sunday in Waterloo against the Siskins, breaking the mark of 8 set in 2007-08.  Their current 11-game home win streak is still 4 short of the franchise record of 15 set during the 2022-23 season; and with only three home games left, it’s one record that is out of reach in this historic season.

The 7-3 win over the Stars last Monday set two franchise records.  It was their 37th win of the season, surpassing the old franchise record of 36 set in 2008-09; and it was their 75th point of the season, breaking the old franchise record of 73 set in 2008-09.  With 6 losses and four games left, they will break the current record for fewest losses in a season of 11 set in 2023-24.

With just 78 goals allowed and only five game remaining, the Lincolns will break the current franchise record for fewest goals allowed in a season (130) set last season and could finish in the top five in GOJHL history …

Fewest Goals Against – Season

74 Caledonia Corvairs 2014-15 (49 games)
78 St. Catharines Falcons 2021-22 (48 games)

89 Caledonia Corvairs 2017-18 (50 games)
95 Leamington Flyers 2015-16 (50 games)

With 198 goals scored to date (4.3 per game), the Lincolns are 15 goals shy of the franchise record of 213 set in 2008-09.

Lincolns individual franchise records set (or could be set) this season:

Luca Spagnolo:

  • career game winning goals (14)
  • game winning goals in a season (9); GOJHL record: 12
  • (tied) shorthanded goals in a season (5)
  • 24 career power play goals are 4 shy of the franchise record of 28 (Brenton Kemp, 2007-09)

  • 20 wins this season are two short of the franchise record of 22 (Kyle Brodhagen, 2007-08)
  • current GAA (1.71) and Save% (.938) would both be new franchise season records and would rank in the top 5 for all GOJHL goalies in a season

Nico Armellin:

  • current Save% (.938) would set new GOJHL rookie record and would rank in the top 5 for all GOJHL goalies in a season
  • current GAA (1.77) and Save% (.938) would each be new franchise season records and would each rank in the top 5 for all GOJHL goalies in a season
