The St. Marys Lincolns Alumni Group made a special presentation to the 2023-24 Lincs’ executive last Friday night, just prior to the GOJHL game between the Lincolns and Fort Erie Meteors at the PRC.

The Alumni Group (established in 2018) handed over a cheque for $3,000 to the Lincs’ executive. The money was raised at the Alumni’s golf tournament last September at River Valley Golf and Country Club.

“Last September, we made enough money at the successful golf tournament that we ran to pay for the budgeted things that the Alumni wants to do,” explained Alumni vice-president Brian Hughes.

“Talking to Brandon (Boyd) and Pete (Frehner), from the Lincolns executive, they have things that they would like to do and haven’t budgeted for. In a small way, this donation hopefully helps them do some of things they couldn’t do before. So, it made perfect sense to us.”

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Alumni Group were Mike Mattiussi, George Cifa, Jacques Cousineau and Rick Fifield. Mattiussi, Cifa and Cousineau were all members of the 1962-63 Lincolns, who won the franchise’s first All-Ontario championship. Fifield is one of the most prolific scorers in the Lincs’ 67-year history. The talented right winger had an outstanding career (1969 to ‘73) with the Lincolns, clicking for 230 goals and 400 total points (including playoffs) in just three and a half seasons in green and white colours. Fifield once scored seven goals in one game.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Lincs’ executive were directors Rob Mossey and Kara Stevens.

President thrilled with donation

Club president Boyd said he was thrilled with the Alumni’s donation to the Jr. ‘B’ hockey club last Friday night.

“It was a great surprise, and we’re very fortunate to have the Alumni network that we do,” Boyd said. “There are so many great resources and so many great stories that we can tap into. For the Alumni Group to take the time to give back to their former team, it helps us accomplish our goals and we’re super appreciative to get this donation from them.”
