Lincolns sign free agent forward Spencer Hazell

By Pat Payton

St. Marys Lincolns just got deeper for the stretch run.

Last weekend, Lincsโ€™ Director of Hockey Operations/GM Greg Smale announced that he has signed free agent forward Spencer Hazell.

A 20-year-old Western University student, Hazell played two full seasons (2018-20) for Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). He sat out last year when no Junior League in the province operated due to Covid-19. A left shot, heโ€™s listed at 6 ft., 2 inches and 185 lbs.

โ€œAll the paperwork is done,โ€ Smale told the Independent. โ€œSpencer hasnโ€™t played competitive hockey this year, but heโ€™s a big body. He can play wing or centre, and heโ€™s a good face-off guy.โ€

Hazell was an eighth-round pick of the OHLโ€™s Owen Sound Attack in 2017.

โ€œTeams obviously saw something in the kid,โ€ the GM continued. โ€œWith Covid going on, heโ€™s a really good addition for us at this time and weโ€™re excited to have him. He adds to that organizational depth that weโ€™ve tried to build on all season. Heโ€™s another really good piece to the puzzle.โ€

The signing of Hazell brings the Lincolns’ roster to 24 players.
