Lincolns sign free agent forward Spencer Hazell

St. Marys Lincolns just got deeper for the stretch run.

Last weekend, Lincs’ Director of Hockey Operations/GM Greg Smale announced that he has signed free agent forward Spencer Hazell.

A 20-year-old Western University student, Hazell played two full seasons (2018-20) for Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). He sat out last year when no Junior League in the province operated due to Covid-19. A left shot, he’s listed at 6 ft., 2 inches and 185 lbs.

“All the paperwork is done,” Smale told the Independent. “Spencer hasn’t played competitive hockey this year, but he’s a big body. He can play wing or centre, and he’s a good face-off guy.”

Hazell was an eighth-round pick of the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack in 2017.

“Teams obviously saw something in the kid,” the GM continued. “With Covid going on, he’s a really good addition for us at this time and we’re excited to have him. He adds to that organizational depth that we’ve tried to build on all season. He’s another really good piece to the puzzle.”

The signing of Hazell brings the Lincolns’ roster to 24 players.
